An international life insurance company is seeking a highly experienced Chief Actuary to lead and oversee actuarial operations across its Hong Kong office. This executive-level position requires comprehensive knowledge of life insurance products, regulatory requirements, actuarial modelling, and risk management.
The successful candidate will be instrumental in shaping the strategic direction of the company’s actuarial function, providing expert guidance to the executive board, and ensuring compliance with regional and global regulatory frameworks. You will be responsible for leading pricing, valuation, capital management, regulatory reporting, and business planning initiatives whilst driving innovation and operational efficiency within the actuarial teams.
Key Responsibilities:
- Lead and manage the actuarial department, including direct reports across pricing, valuation, and modelling teams.
- Oversee statutory and regulatory reporting in accordance with Hong Kong Insurance Authority requirements and global standards such as IFRS 17 and RBC.
- Develop and maintain models for product development, portfolio management, experience analysis, and capital optimisation.
- Collaborate closely with finance, risk, product, and reinsurance teams to support strategic initiatives.
- Provide insights and recommendations to the executive leadership team using advanced analytics and actuarial methodologies.
- Ensure strong governance, compliance, and control within the actuarial function.
- Represent the actuarial function in discussions with regulators, auditors, and external stakeholders.
Requirements:
- Fellow of a recognised actuarial body (FIA, FSA, or equivalent).
- A minimum of 15 years’ actuarial experience within the life insurance industry, including demonstrable leadership at a senior level.
- Proven track record in actuarial valuations, capital management, and experience in implementing regulatory frameworks such as IFRS 17 and Risk-Based Capital.
- Exceptional analytical, problem-solving, and strategic thinking skills.
- Excellent communication skills, with the ability to present complex actuarial concepts clearly to non-actuarial stakeholders.
- Experience in managing large teams and cross-functional collaboration.
- Deep understanding of the Hong Kong and international life insurance markets.
