Overview
We are seeking an experienced AXIS Modelling Actuary to support the development, enhancement, and ongoing maintenance of actuarial models within a life insurance environment. You will partner with actuarial, finance, and risk stakeholders to deliver robust modelling solutions, support valuation and reporting processes, and improve automation and data quality.
Key Responsibilities
- Develop, code, enhance, and maintain AXIS models and associated actuarial libraries to support valuation, pricing, projections, and financial reporting.
- Implement model changes driven by new products, assumption updates, methodology changes, and regulatory or internal requirements.
- Perform model testing, validation, and reconciliation; investigate and resolve issues, ensuring auditability and appropriate documentation.
- Optimise model run times and improve process efficiency through automation and best-practice coding standards.
- Support end-to-end production runs, including controls, change management, and release management.
- Collaborate with data and systems teams on input data specification, transformation, and integration to modelling platforms.
- Prepare clear documentation, technical notes, and user guides for model development and ongoing support.
Required Skills & Experience
- Proven, hands-on AXIS modelling experience, including coding/development and ongoing model maintenance.
- Solid understanding of life insurance actuarial concepts (e.g., cashflow projections, reserving/valuation methodologies, assumptions and model governance).
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with the ability to work independently and manage competing deadlines.
- Experience working within controlled environments, including documentation, testing, and change control.
- Effective communication skills, able to explain technical topics to non-technical stakeholders.
Desirable (Nice to Have)
- Experience with SQL for data extraction and validation.
- Programming/scripting exposure including VBA and/or R.
- Advanced Excel skills (model prototyping, reconciliation, and reporting).
- Experience with model performance tuning and automation.
Qualifications
- Degree in Actuarial Science, Mathematics, Statistics, Finance, or a related discipline.
- Progress towards, or membership of, a recognised actuarial professional body is preferred.
